Duration: 75 minutes

Purpose

To learn how to apply the new communication skills in practice.

Role-playing using a simulated client

The group picks a different scenario to role-play based on their own experience or on their hopes and fears of what might happen in the clinic. The "clinician" leaves the room.

The rest of the group develops the scenario and creates a client profile. Other group members are given specific tasks and things to look out for to provide the person playing the clinician with feedback on the skills they particularly wanted to practice.

At any time, the clinician can pause and ask for help from the group. At the end, the group reflects on which skills from the Competency Skills List were demonstrated and how the appointment went from the client's, clinician's and observers' points of view.
