Understanding My Hearing Workshop

At the “Understanding My Hearing” workshop in 2018, participants from around the world explored how a person’s hearing status can be described in person-centered ways to promote easy understanding and informed decision making. The focus was discussing how the audiogram can be used to communicate relevant information to clients.

The goal of the workshop was to develop practical tools and resources that can help people with hearing loss better understand the status of their hearing, its implications, and to help them make decisions with their families and hearing care professional about further management.

The result was My Hearing Explained, a conversation guide for relating hearing test results in easy-to-understand language. It can be used throughout the appointment – during the case history, the explanation phase, and the management and planning phase.

The tool has since been adapted for use in pediatric audiology, as My Hearing Explained for Children.
