Health Assembly has unanimously approved and adopted a resolution on the prevention of hearing loss. This is the first resolution on hearing loss adopted by the WHA in 20 years. The resolution invites the WHO to prepare its first ever world report on ear and hearing care, develop a toolkit for Member States, and support the development of safe listening [...] positive implications for hearing care around the world,” says Ida Institute Managing Director Lise Lotte Bundesen. “The WHO’s commitment to hearing healthcare will support improvements to how hearing loss is prevented and treated globally.” The WHO estimates that 360 million people worldwide live with a disabling hearing loss. The study was conducted over a six-month period with adults with hearing loss aged 60+ to determine what impact a community-led intervention in training participants on how to use hearing devices. Ida’s Line was used as part of the study to measure hearing-related self-efficacy in participants [...] of a pilot study on community-delivered hearing care interventions. Baltimore HEARS study particularly sought out the participation of low-income minority older adults, who statistically only have a 10% uptake of hearing devices, compared to the average 20%. She began her career as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist, practicing in both public and private clinical environments. She received her Master’s and AuD from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, and is certified in learning and teaching as well as online [...] director and lecturer at University College London and the University of Cape Town, where her course topics included a focus on aural rehabilitation. Prior to that, she worked as a product manager and trainer for GN ReSound. Cherilee has been active in the Ida community for years and previously participated in our seminars on Change Management and Living [...] Living Well with Hearing Loss. She has also been a member of our Academic Panel and a research collaborator.
