Transitions Management Presentation at Educational Audiology Association Conference

By Amanda Farah Cox

Ida’s Transitions Management will be represented at this year’s Educational Audiology Association (EAA) Conference. Cheryl DeConde Johnson and Carolyne Edwards will give the presentation, “Helping Children and Teens Navigate Transitions Successfully.”

The Transitions Management platform offers a suite of resources for children, young adults, and their families, to help them navigate shifts between different school levels and life after school. It looks at the milestones children with hearing loss should reach at different ages – including developmental, academic, and social – and suggests how children and their families can most effectively advocate for themselves to make these transitions smoothly.

The hour and a half presentation will introduce the Transitions Management platform, how it was developed and how to use it, and will cover the basics of self-determination theory. The concepts will be introduced through the ethnographic film, “I Brought It to the Kitchen Table.” Both Cheryl and Carolyne were collaborators on the development of Transitions Management along with Ida staff and other professionals.

This year’s EAA conference will be held in Paradise Valley, Arizona, on June 21-23. The Transitions Management presentation takes place on Thursday, June 22, at 3:30pm.  For more information and to register to attend, visit the EAA website.
