Working together to shine

By Helle Gjønnes Møller

Ever since 1969, Beck Hearing Aid Centre in London, Ontario (CA) has been helping people improve their quality of life through individualized hearing care. Today, more than half a century later, the world looks radically different — as does hearing aid technology and the team at Beck Hearing. However, the essence of the practice remains the same and their core purpose is still to help people live their life to the fullest through tailored care.

Recently, the team entered the Inspired by Ida program — joining the expanding community of person-centered practitioners. We spoke with clinic owner, Treva Murray, about their drive, determination, and unyielding superpowers.

Why did your team enroll in the Inspired by Ida program?

We’ve made a lot of changes to our practice since taking ownership five years ago. We’ve moved to a new location and really optimized our care team. We’ve always had a patient-centered approach to care — but wanted to ensure we were consistently implementing best practices and providing the life-changing care we promise. We knew that’s what the Inspired by Ida program offered.

What changed in your practice after completing Inspired by Ida?

Our team now has a standardized approach to client care, and they understand how to work together to deliver it. Our patients are experiencing optimal outcomes with treatment of their hearing loss and are letting us know how happy they are with the results and their ongoing care.

What does person-centered care mean to your clients?

Person-centered care means that our clients feel heard, valued, and understood. They don’t feel bad about taking up appointment time or coming in for further adjustments or consultations. They know we’re here to optimize their experience, and we’re happy to try new things and pivot as their needs change.

What are your hopes and aspirations for hearing healthcare in the future?

We have so many hopes for the future of hearing healthcare. The biggest among them are a reduction in the stigma of wearing hearing aids, a broader understanding of the dangers of untreated hearing loss, and most importantly, a renewed focus on the role of care and expertise in a good hearing clinic as opposed to the current focus on the “gadget” or hearing aid.

What is your clinic’s superpower?

TEAMWORK. We have created a family that lifts each other up and works together to shine. Our goal has always been to be the best hearing healthcare provider in our area, and to be recognized as a clear leader in patient care and experience. This team comes to work every day to help each other learn, grow, and excel.

If your clinic was an animal, what would it be and why?

No question, we’re a dog. We’re good at our job, we love our people, we make everyone happy, and we don’t get tired of chasing that dream.
