Ida Workshops at SLP and Audiology Conference in Bauru, Brazil

The Ida Institute is very excited to participate in the upcoming Speech Language Pahology and Audiology Conference on August 20-23 2014, in the city of Bauru, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The conference is being hosted by the SLP-Audiology Department of the Dental School of Bauru - University of Sao Paulo. Ida Fellow Deborah Viviane Ferrari, who is a professor of audiology at the university, has been instrumental in coordinating Ida's participating in the conference.

The conference will focus on innovative practices that can help improve the quality of hearing health and speech practices across the Brazilian population.

The Ida Institute will be well represented among the conference's numerous workshops, short courses, and courses on communication disorders.

Ida Fellow Jean-Pierre Gagne (University of Monteal) will present two short courses: "Hearing aids and stigma" and "Speech perception in noise"

Ida Fellow Viviana Maller (Argentina) will present her experiences on using the Ida Motivation Tools and other resources with groups of hearing impaired persons.

In addition, the Ida Institute will conduct two, interactive workshops at the conference, presented by Lise Lotte Bundesen (Ida Managing Director) and Melanie Gregory (Ida Senior Audiologist).

One workshop will focus on patient motivation, and the other will focus on the principles of patient-centered care. The workshops will include presentations from psychologist Dagma Abramides and audiologist Deborah Viviane Ferrari, both from the University of Sao Paulo Bauru. The workshops aim to start a discussion about these topics among students and young professionals.
