Ida Signs Partnership with Rush University in Chicago

By Amanda Farah Cox

The Ida Institute is pleased to announce our partnership with Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. The partnership is part of Ida’s ongoing effort to build a network of organizations that work together towards a more person-centered approach to hearing care. The agreement outlines Rush University and the Ida Institute’s commitment to a person-centered approach to hearing care. The agreement was signed by Program Director Dr. Patricia McCarthy of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences, and states Rush and Ida’s mutual intentions to collaborate for the enhancement of audiological rehabilitation education and research.

“Our latest partnership highlights our commitment to supporting person-centered care in education,” says Ida Institute Managing Director Lise Lotte Bundesen. “Rush has one of the top audiology programs in the US and a long-standing commitment to patient care, and Dr. Patricia McCarthy has been a tireless advocate for Ida methods. We are very proud to be able to formally align ourselves with an institution that is working so hard to make person-centered practice the norm in hearing healthcare.”

“The ‘teacher-practitioner’ model used at Rush University  reflects the integration of academics and patient care. Teaching and research faculty are also patient care providers. Consequently, students learn in an environment where person-centered care is reinforced in the classroom and modeled in the clinic,” says Dr. McCarthy. “The Ida Institute and the Rush AuD Program share a common commitment to person-centered care. Therefore, our newly formed partnership will allow us to explore creative ways to further infuse person-centered care into our academic curriculum and clinical protocols."
