Penguins, person-centered care, and becoming Inspired in Minnesota and Wisconsin

By Clint McLean

From Grand Rapids in the west, to the shores of Lake Superior, and the suburbs of Minneapolis, five Audiology Concepts locations are dotted across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Jason Leyendecker bought the first two clinics in 2017 and added three more just last year. All five clinics have now become Inspired by Ida, so we asked Jason about the Inspired program and the importance of person-centered care.

What is your clinic’s superpower?

The ability to adapt and change. Our industry is always evolving, and I’d say we are an early adopter in adapting. We take pride in staying up to date and driving some of the change. You won’t often hear, “It’s because that’s how we have always done it” in our office.

Three words to describe the Inspired by Ida program.

Motivational. Ethical. Time saving.

Why did you and the Audiology Concepts team enroll in the Inspired by Ida program?

We believe in providing the best care possible. This includes using best practices. We value creating a plan as a team, because everyone involved takes ownership in making sure it is a success. The program was a great supplement to the process we already use.

What changed in your practices after completing Inspired by Ida?

We loved implementing the Line into the hearing aid evaluation process. It helps reduce ambiguity and addresses objections much earlier in the process so we can address them before they become bigger objections.

What does person-centered care mean to your clients?

It means being part of the decision-making process. It means they can take ownership of their care because they were involved in the process.

If your clinic was an animal, what would it be and why?

A penguin. A penguin is a highly adaptable, very loyal, social creature, extremely friendly and loves to have fun!
