Ida Presents Motivation Tools at ASHA Convention

By Timothy Cooke

Ida Anthropologist Kirsten Lauritsen and Ida Fellow Dr. Joseph Montano (Chief of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Weill Cornell Medical Center) conducted a session on Motivational Engagement at the 2011 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention in San Diego, California.

This marks the first time that the Ida Institute has presented at the ASHA Convention.

During the Ida interactive workshop, Kirsten Lauritsen and Joseph Montano introduced the Ida Motivation Tools as a framework and guide for uncovering patient motivation during the rehabilitation process.

Workshop participants left the session prepared to use the Ida Motivation Tools in their clinical practice.

“I will absolutely reflect on my motivational issues that impede change in my clinical setting! [I] will begin implementing the tools,” remarked one participant.

“I am very familiar with Ida and the tools, yet I was once again inspired,” stated another participant.

ASHA is the professional, scientific and credentialing association for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the United States and internationally. ASHA’s mission is to empower and support their community by advocating on behalf of persons with communication and related disorders, advancing communication science, and promoting effective human communication.

After our great experience at this year’s convention, we look forward to engaging the ASHA community in the future.
