Abstract: The child's perspective is essential when addressing the challenges of hearing loss. Incorporating this perspective makes them an active participant in the rehabilitation process.The My World tool from the Ida Institute facilitates an understanding of hearing loss from the child's point of view. The session will educate participants in the use of this counseling tool with the goal of achieving practical, actionable methods for engaging patients.

Abstract: Changing behaviors is not always easy. Motivational interviewing is a semi-directive, patient-centered counseling approach that has been used and adapted by other healthcare fields to facilitate behavior change. This course will provide an overview of motivational interviewing, review the evidence base, and present strategies for how this approach can be adapted for use in audiology.

The session will engage participants in a unique collaborative learning process with a goal of providing practical, actionable knowledge to facilitate changes towards patient-centered care.

Abstract: The purpose of this grand rounds session is to discuss interesting and/or difficult audiologic rehabilitation cases for audience consideration. These cases will highlight the fact that hearing aids and/or cochlear implants are essential but not sufficient for successful rehabilitation. The cases, highlighting primarily adult patients, will demonstrate models for the incorporation of rehabilitation into clinical practice.
