Anna Artursson: Introducing the Ida Motivation Tools at Her Clinic

By Timothy Cooke

After attending Ida's seminar series on Managing Change in 2012, Audiologist Anna Artursson introduced the Ida Motivation Tools to her colleagues at Audionomerna, a private clinic chain with 33 locations throughout Sweden. Due to her continued support and motivation, many of her colleagues are now using the tools with patients on a daily basis.

Artursson is the clinical manager of the Audionomerna clinic in Karlstad, Sweden. Each year, Audionomerna audiologists from regional clinics throughout Sweden get together in one location for professional development courses and lectures. At last year's team meeting in August, 2012, Artursson translated the Line and the Box into Swedish and conducted a lecture on the Ida Motivation Tools.

"I was surprised how motivated my colleagues were to change current procedures at our company and introduce the Ida Motivation Tools into their consultation sessions," states Anna Artursson. "The hearing test does not cost anything at our clinic, but people are often resilient to try out hearing aids. I think my colleagues found that the Ida tools could make their consultations easier, and help clients better understand their choices and make the right choice. We certainly want to sell hearing aids, but we want to sell the right hearing aid for the right person."

After her lecture, Artursson estimates that over 20 audiologists at her company are now using the Ida Motivation Tools with clients. However, changing practice did not come easy for all of her colleagues. While many of her colleagues were motivated to use the tools, many found it challenging to use the tools with patients for the first time.

Artursson found it helpful to provide her colleagues with support as they went through their personal change journeys to implement the tools. She regularly answered emails from her colleagues who had questions about how to use the tools. Most importantly, she made sure to include words of encouragement and positive messages in her emails to sustain her colleagues' motivation to change.

Artursson intends to continue providing support to her colleagues and conduct a follow-up lecture at this year's team meeting. At the lecture, she plans to introduce the new Ida Change Guide to her colleagues, which can help them move forward on their change process.
