New Course on Implementing Person-Centered Care in Tinnitus Management

Tinnitus Management, our latest eLearning course, debuted in the Ida Learning Hall this week. The course focuses on person-centered communication specific to working with tinnitus clients, and how the Ida Tinnitus Tools can help you support them.

The course includes ethnographic films of patients and hearing care professionals, reflection exercises, and knowledge check questions to support your learning. Included at the end of the course is a final exam. A passing score enables you to apply for free CEU/CPD points with accredited professional organizations around the world.

Expert Contributions

The course was developed collaboratively with a number of leading tinnitus experts from the Ida network.

Sharon Sandridge, Director of Audiology Clinical Services and Co-Director of the Tinnitus Management Clinic at the Cleveland Clinic in the US, advised on the overall development of the course and provided a module on evidence-based tinnitus management approaches.

Dean Thompson, Psychological Therapist from the Institute of Mental Health in the UK, provided content focusing on the art and science of effective information sharing for tinnitus patients.

Susan Swart, Clinical Audiologist from South Africa with a special interest and passion for helping people with tinnitus, provided filming of appointments with patients where she demonstrates how the Ida Tinnitus Tools can be used in a clinical setting.

Candice Manning, Research Audiologist at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research and Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University, created the case studies that are a part of this course.

Course Outline

Tinnitus Management contains seven modules:

  • Module 1 - Tinnitus Management Approaches
  • Module 2 - Person-centered care (PCC) Principles applied to Tinnitus Management Part I
  • Module 3 - PCC Principles applied to Tinnitus Management Part II
  • Module 4 - Effective Tinnitus EducationModule 5 - The Ida Tools
  • Module 6 - Tinnitus Case Study
  • Module 7 - Conclusion of the Tinnitus Management Course

The course takes approximately two-and-a-half hours in total, and can be completed at your convenience.
