New Community Moderators in the Ida Learning Hall

By Jeanette Blom

The Ida Institute is excited to announce our new community moderators in the Ida Learning Hall.

The moderators are renowned audiology experts whose input and expertise will spark discussion and facilitate knowledge sharing within our online communities in the Learning Hall.  In the coming months, their role will be to answer your questions, share relevant materials and research, and engage community members in mutually enriching discussions.

The Life with Hearing Loss Community will be moderated by Dr. Dusty Jessen, AuD from Colorado, USA. Dusty is a clinic owner and author of the handbook: “Frustrated by Hearing Loss?  5 Keys to Communication Success.” We have previously interviewed Dusty about her work here.

The Motivating your Clients Community, which covers everything related to client motivation, the Ida Motivation Tools and motivational interviewing, will be moderated by Dr. Priya Carling, AuD, who is the founder and owner of Kent Hearing Clinic in the UK. She was previously a Senior Lecturer and Director of Education at University College London’s Ear Institute in London and recently presented Ida tools at the Beijing Audiology Forum. This community will also be moderated by Lucy Handscomb, who is currently completing her PhD project on a new cognitive model for tinnitus management, while also teaching and supervising audiology students at UCL’s Ear Institute.

The Tinnitus Community will be moderated by Dr. Tara Zaugg who is a well-known research audiologist employed at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR), located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Portland Health Care System. She also contributed to the development of our Tinnitus Communication Guide.

“We are very happy that we have such eminent people as moderators in the Learning Hall and we are really looking forward to following the debates in these different communities,” says Bert Meijers, Project Manager for the Learning Hall. “The door is now open for hearing care professionals worldwide to share their thoughts and questions and exchange ideas about how to apply and develop person-centered care.”
