Abstract

This study will compare the effect of interview technique (biopsychosocial vs. biomedical) on patient perception of the interview process and interviewer, ob the quantity and quality of diagnostic information obtained, and on the quantity and quality of emotional content volunteered.

40 consecutive patients referred for vestibular assessment will be randomized into one of the interview groups.

The interviews will be recorded on audio tape.  Transcripts of the interviews will be used to identify the issues above.

Patients will also be surveyed following their interview to assess their views on the interview process.
