Our Lives Theater Production

Let others step into the shoes of a hearing impaired person through the power of theater!

Idea At A Glance

Let your creativity shine as you raise awareness of hearing loss. Put on a dynamic theater performance that highlights the reality of living with hearing loss in a powerful, yet humorous way.

The theater production could be written and delivered in a way that mirrors the needs of a hearing loss audience, such as employing effective communication strategies.

The original production could be designed to reach a small audience in one region. Subsequent productions could reach out to a broader audience, such as schools, universities and media outlets. Over time, the show could be translated for production in multiple countries.

Inspiration

Theater plays can give rise to global movements to raise awareness of important issues. The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler that celebrates the female body and aims to raise awareness of violence against women.

The play is the cornerstone of the V-Day movement, which aims to create a world where women live safely and freely. In 2012, over 5,800 V-Day events took place by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world. The events included local productions of The Vagina Monologues, educating millions of people about violence against women and girls.

Potential Impact

Theater productions can reach into the hearts and minds of viewers in a life-changing way.

Stories make people laugh, cry, or have blinding moments of insight. By helping people step into the shoes of a hearing impaired person, a dramatic theater play has the potential to trigger action and change on a grand scale.
