Visit Local Schools

Motivate students to talk about hearing health with their family and inspire action!

Idea At A Glance

Get involved in your community and offer hearing health information and free hearing screenings to students at the beginning of each school year. Your visit to the school can help raise awareness of hearing loss among students and their families.

As part of your visit, you can provide short training sessions to teachers and administrators on how they can detect signs of hearing loss and help students with hearing loss cope in the classroom. Additionally, you could bring handouts and informational brochures for students to give to their families at home. This could include a voucher for a free hearing test at your clinic.

Inspiration

AARP has partnered with Walgreens Pharmacy to provide free prevention and early detection health services to underserved communities in the United States. The program’s tour bus provides free health tests and affordable resources for the prevention and early detection of chronic diseases. Through the program, the AARP aims to bring health awareness directly to those people who may not have access to affordable health care services.

Potential Impact

This is a win-win situation. Visiting schools is a great opportunity to give back to your local community while informing families about the valuable services you offer.

The school also benefits. Your visit can encourage young people to use proper hearing protection and educate teachers about how to provide proper assistance to hearing impaired persons in the classroom.

By targeting younger age groups, your visit could engender discussions between young people and their families about hearing and hearing loss. This could potentially encourage family members to take action to improve their hearing.
