New "My World" Pediatric Counseling Tool Launched

New"MyWorld"PediatricCounselingToolLaunched

Ida’s new My World pediatric counseling tool can help give the child a voice and ensure that they are an active participant in the rehabilitation process.

On 5 December, we launched the My World tool at a workshop in Manchester, UK. Over 40 hearing care professionals (HCPs) attended the interactive, collaborative workshop.

The My World tool can help facilitate an understanding of hearing loss from the child’s point of view. It can help the HCP uncover information about the child’s communication challenges, reinforce positive patterns, and formulate a strategy for coping with challenges.

The tool consists of three different environments: a classroom, a home and an outdoor area. The child can place movable figures and everyday objects in the various environments. This activity...

London and Tampa: Upcoming Ida Workshops

LondonandTampa:UpcomingIdaWorkshops

Get the word out! Ida is coming to a city near you. We have been busy over the last couple of weeks preparing for our upcoming workshops in London and Florida.

On October 10th, we will be at University College London, where we will explore the challenges of bringing communication partners (i.e. husbands, wives, friends, etc.) into the rehabilitation process. Hearing loss affects more than one person: it impacts family and friends in many instances. This workshop can help you ensure that a patient’s communication partner is part of the solution, as opposed to part of the problem.

For our US community members, we offer a workshop in Tampa, Florida, about Motivational Engagement at the University of South Florida on October 28th. All are invited to join us as we explore the topic...

Ida at the HLAA Conference

Earlier this month, the Ida Institute conducted a workshop with 30 members of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) at their annual conference in Washington. All of the members attending the workshop were hearing impaired.

Following the last seminar series,” Living Well with hearing Loss” the Ida Institute has developed a Living Well tool prototype designed to better understand the person with hearing loss within their social context, to hear the patient’s unique story and to formulate positive management strategies for different social situations together with the patient. This has been tried out in clinics.

Participants at the seminars felt that as this tool had some unique qualities, it was essential to obtain patients perspective on this. Participant Brenda Battat,...
